Alcalá Lab at William & Mary

Aarthi is a third-year undergraduate at the College of William & Mary studying Computational Biology (CAMS) and Data Science. She joined the lab at the end of her first year, initially exploring gene scrambling in ciliates before transitioning in her second year to investigating the relationship between transposase domestication and patterns of eukaryotic evolution. Her current research interests include characterizing a genomic toolkit of conserved proteins involved in genetic editing and eukaryotic development. Outside the lab, Aarthi enjoys applying quantitative methods to scientific questions, leading in a cappella, helping organize CAMS club events, and singing in the William & Mary Botetourt Chamber Choir. She aspires to bridge the programmable capabilities of biology and technology to develop innovative approaches to human health and disease, with a particular interest in translational research in oncology and immunology.
